"Mommy, where do babies come from?"

This stunning creature you see before you is a "Chamart Limoges Stork with Baby Box." It retails for 165.50 USD. What do you get for your money? Well, my friends, I'm glad you asked. Apparently, you get a French made 1.63in long x 1.25in wide x 3.38in tall porcelain box that depicts a stork "sitting on a chimney."
So I'm confused, is the stork a friend of Santa's? Since when do storks deliver babies down chimneys? And how is it gonna deliver your bundle of joy if it is lazing about on the job? Is it gonna poop the baby down the chimney? Because I'm thinking that's gonna be a messy baby...
And wait, there's more.

And... there are no words.

29 down, 28 to go..

One more page written of ye old thesis..
At this rate, I'll be done in 3-4 months. Yikes. I'd really better step it up.
But still, one page is definitely better than none.

Carhenge

This is so weird, I kinda want to see it. I mean if I'm ever in Western Nebraska, or driving through there (which is unlikely but possible, simply because there's no predicting the future...) I will sooooo be stopping at Carhenge..

I heart zombies

I heart zombies.

OK, correction, I heart zombie lore. and gore.
So, when I heard a story about zombie novels on NPR this morning while driving to work, I got super excited.
Basically, they're talking about 4 books that break the mold of regular zombie tales. The one I'm most excited about is Breathers, by Scott Browne, in which we the reader are supposed to empathize with the zombie.
Sounds a little to me like Fido. (so awesomely bad it's hard not to love)
And.. it has got to be better than Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith, which I'm trying to read now, but thoroughly hating.

Unrelated to novels, but definitely in the spirit of zombie love, check this out. I won't spoil the surprise by telling you what it is, but do yourself a favor and take a peek (I promise, it all-ages and work appropriate..)

ok, so I'm a nerd..

But seriously, this is AWESOME..
One of my favorite childhood toys - my little ponies - dressed up as superheroes (and villains too!) Someone even made a Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer, which is hilarious (I adore both Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion.)
You can check it out here.
p.s. I think they saved the best for last ;)

Cake Wrecks

I just found this blog (thanks, Twitter!)
It's hilarious, and not just because I'm an amateur baker.
But don't take my word for it, check it out!

Blood

An all time favorite of mine. I could watch it pretty much every day.

The Graveyard Book

It was wonderful.

Wheeeee

My Braves won last night. It doesn't truly count, because it was an inter-league game against the Yankees, but we still won.
Pretty cool that I got to see the Yankees play, the crowd's response to A Rod was ridic.
I got to see Tommy Hanson pitch, my brother says he'll be the next big thing. No runs allowed last night, that makes for a pretty good game, I'd say.
Soriano relieved him, and that's cool too. Diaz made a brief appearance (swoon, too bad he's married.) Chipper looked old, and I still miss Smoltz, Lopez, and A Jones. McCann hit a homer, and you just don't see that happen every day. If he keeps it up, maybe I won't miss Lopez so much.
All in all, a great night. Even if I did spill barbeque sauce all over my boob.

Ode to Tanqueray

Dear Tanqueray,
I love you. Did you know that? You're smoother than anyone I know, and you taste delicious with tonic and a lime. You're always there for me, and you never disappoint (unlike half of my ex-boyfriends.)
Smooches,
Nikki

48 Hour Film Project

The 48 Hour Film Project is, in their own words, " a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and a team make a movie—write, shoot, edit and score it—in just 48 hours. On Friday night, you get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in your movie. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete. Then it will show at a local theater, usually in the next week. "

The coolest thing? They go on tour (they'll be in Atlanta June 26-28) and a friend of mine living in Jacksonville participated. You can visit his Production company, Somebody Call an Ambulance Productions here.

Uphill Battle

Ok, but seriously. Last night at Bootcamp, we pushed a Jeep up a mild incline, two people at a time. I feel every muscle in my body, which is a good thing, because when I went bikini shopping this morning, I was pretty excited about the results from one month of bootcamp classes!

Museums On Us

If you live in one of these states, and are a Bank of America customer, this one's for you.
Did you know that on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month, you get free entry to a whole bunch of museums, just with your ID and Bank of America card?
For example, because I live in Atlanta, I could, theoretically, go to the Atlanta History Center, the Fernbank Museum, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Zoo Atlanta, or Millenium Gate. This weekend. For free. And if I happened to be in New York that weekend, I could go to the Met, the Bronx Zoo, the New York Aquarium, or the Whitney? Sadly for my hometown of West Palm Beach, there's just the South Florida Science Museum. But still.
That is cool.
Go here for details: http://museums.bankofamerica.com/

This pretty much says it all:

I need this

Need a spare chair? Just take down the Mona Lisa from the wall and unfold it. Party over? Re-hang it! Brilliant!

Le sigh

Don't you hate it when you have a crush on a friend and there's nothing to be done about it?

1922 Telegraph

Found telegraph from 1922 announcing the birth of my grandfather!

The inside reads:
Received in Hilversum (a Dutch down near Bussum) on June 24 1922 7:24
(sent from Amsterdam 7:15)

A sturdy son, everything very good - Tonny (my great-grandfather)

The outside is addressed to a Father Egbertus (my grandfather's side of the family is very Catholic) at a school called Ludgerusweek in Hilversum, Netherlands.

How cool is that?!?

Beautiful Day in North Georgia

Sun is shining, not too hot, not too cold.
Had a great boot camp workout this morning. Shay is the best.
Now for some organic strawberry picking. $8 per gallon - not bad, considering the fact that you KNOW they are fresh, because you're the one pulling them from the plant!
I'm thinking this afternoon I'll lay out a little, but it always makes me so homesick for Florida, wishing there was a pool or and ocean to go to. (Lake Lanier is pretty enough when the water levels are up, but the water is so murky and muddy it ruins the whole experience for me.)

Meet Frank.the.tank.
He's the coolest chihuahua in the history of ever.
Also, he thinks he's a supermodel. (Shhh, don't tell him otherwise, you might break his wee chihuahua heart.)
